Question about your insulated ceiling? In this recent project, we found some large cracks going across the drywall on the ceiling of an addition that was done some years before. Upon closer examination, the ceiling felt cold which lead us to open each hole one by one to further investigate. We looked inside and realized there was no insulation in the ceiling. This was a ceiling directly below the roof. The cold from outside had caused the cracks.
We added proper insulation and then patched up the ceiling before repainting. This was an unexpected part of a “simple” painting job, but we just couldn’t patch and leave it to see what happens down the road. The crack would most probably keep appearing even if repainted perfectly. As painters, addressing the root causes of the problem is as important as perfecting our finish coat.
Now the homeowners will be warmer in that room, save money on heat, and avoid having to repair that same crack every year!
